How can I help?
Abdul Razak Osman

Cabinet Member Regeneration Highways & Transport

High Bailiff of Leicester

It is with great pleasure that I can tell you that Leicester City Council has decided to have a directly elected Mayor. I am proud to say I was part of that momentous and historical decision. It means that the good people of our fine city can now elect one person to be responsible, and govern, our city. It is a wonderful opportunity for us all. Now everyone will be able to see more clearly just how a city can be openly run.

I wish to inform you that I shall be standing for this position. I believe my track record and experience will identify me as the person who can take our city forward. I will be putting my name forward to be considered by the Labour Party as its candidate.

To be Leicester's first elected Mayor will be a tremendous honour.

What do I stand for as a Mayor of Leicester?

  • To turn Leicester into a first Class City in the East Midlands, UK and Internationally
  • Bring growth & prosperity
  • Involve all of our people and communities in taking this great city forward
  • Within the severe economic difficulties caused by the central government’s budget and public sector cuts, ensure that vital council frontline services are retained and involve other partners in providing the much needed services
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of the Council’s operation
  • Experienced and creative all-rounder, with enthusiasm and the proven ability to understand constituents’ needs
  • An open minded and outgoing individual, with a sound background and optimistic outlook
  • Possess a good sense of humour and the ability to develop and motivate others, coupled with the ability to communicate comfortably at all levels, thereby ensuring good teamwork and an energetic and productive working environment
