High Bailiff of Leicester
It is with great pleasure that I can tell you that Leicester City Council has decided to have a directly elected Mayor. I am proud to say I was part of that momentous and historical decision. It means that the good people of our fine city can now elect one person to be responsible, and govern, our city. It is a wonderful opportunity for us all. Now everyone will be able to see more clearly just how a city can be openly run.
I wish to inform you that I shall be standing for this position. I believe my track record and experience will identify me as the person who can take our city forward. I will be putting my name forward to be considered by the Labour Party as its candidate.
To be Leicester's first elected Mayor will be a tremendous honour.
